Friendship Circle FAQs

1. Are your programs only open to the Jewish community?

While our Kulanu Hebrew School is specifically designed for Jewish families, our social programs, after-school enrichment, and social skills camp are open to everyone, regardless of background or religious affiliation.

2. Who is eligible to participate? Is your program only for children with severe disabilities?

Friendship Circle is for any child who needs a friend, whether they have a diagnosed disability or just need extra support in social settings. Our goal is to foster meaningful friendships for all children who benefit from peer connection. The only exception is when a child poses a safety risk to themselves or others. Our programs are run by high-school-aged FriendMakers, and we are unable to accommodate children with significant aggression or behaviors that could cause harm.

3. What if I can’t afford the program? Do you offer scholarships?

Yes! There are many funding options available for children with diagnosed disabilities in the Cleveland area. Our Family Support Specialist can help connect you with these resources. If additional financial assistance is needed, you can apply for a Friendship Circle scholarship. We strive to ensure that finances are never a barrier to participation.

4. Is Friendship Circle a good fit for my child?

Our programs are highly individualized to meet each child's unique needs. Whether your child is looking for social opportunities, Jewish connection, or respite support, we believe they will find a place here. Most families find that once their child experiences Friendship Circle, they want to keep coming back! We serve a diverse range of neurodiverse and differently-abled children, and our team is dedicated to ensuring that each participant has a positive and meaningful experience.

5. What types of programs do you offer?

We offer a variety of social, recreational, and skill-building programs, including:

  • Sunday Circle & After-School Programs (social and recreational activities)

  • Teen & Young Adult Hangouts (age-appropriate social events)

  • Social Skills Camp (summer program focusing on friendship-building)

  • Kulanu Hebrew School (Jewish learning for children with disabilities)

  • Parent & Family Support (respite, workshops, and resources)

6. What is a FriendMaker?

A FriendMaker is a high-school-aged student who is carefully matched with a child to provide one-on-one friendship and support during our programs. They are guided and inspired to foster inclusive and meaningful peer interactions.

7. How do I sign my child up?

You can start by filing out an intake form on our website or reaching out to our team for a personalized consultation. We will help determine the best programs for your child’s needs and match them with a FriendMaker.
